Psiphon Released - Free the Internet

Psiphon is a human rights software project developed by the Citizen Lab at the Munk Centre for International Studies that allows citizens in uncensored countries to provide unfettered access to the Net through their home computers to friends and family members who live behind firewalls of states that censor.

Fergie just informed me that it appears to have a problem working on NAT'd addresses.

Hopefully that issue will shows up on the bug fix list soon...regardless, this software will assist those that choose to fight the good fight...against the "Enemies of the Internet".

  1. You are correct, it can be used for bad and good. I don't think anyone is telling normal people to use this software. The only people that need to use this...are the people that understand the issues. Like any tool, it is dual-edged. FreeNet is a perfect example.

However, you are making a HUGE assumption - "you're allowing unknown individuals to use your computer."

This just isn't the case and it wasn't designed to be a open proxy to the whole world, god knows we have enough of those around anyways.

    Please re-read the program FAQ

Access is granted to those with a user/password which you provide. So how this translates in your mind to everyone can use it for kiddie porn is beyond me. You should only give access to people that you personally know and trust.

It is true that you are putting yourself into danger for your friend, let that be understood.

This isn't a toy..and should not be setup by the masses.

Therefore I really don't see how this could be abused to the level that you describe. I mean maybe I am missing something but it looks like Ray is clear on the function of the program or is just deciding to spread FUD.
