LISBON -- Portuguese police have detained a 13-year-old boy who posted two clips of himself trashing a car on the popular video-sharing Web site YouTube, a daily newspaper reported Tuesday.
In the first video, the boy, holding a beer bottle in one hand, can be heard giving his name before he begins kicking a parked car in what he describes as a "sport" called "car jumping," 24 Horas reported.
In the second clip the teenager can be seen jumping off the roof of a white van, onto the top of the car he was kicking earlier. He then slides to the ground, triggering the car's alarm, which prompts him to flee the scene.
The clips began circulating by e-mail after they were posted on the Internet and they eventually reached the attention of police in the city of Evora, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Lisbon, who were then able to identify the boy.
"It is not a common situation but technology is becoming more accessible to more people," Evora police commander Jose Oliveira told the newspaper.
The boy, together with a friend who filmed the stunt on his mobile telephone, are due to appear in juvenile court.
Their parents are expected to have to foot the bill for the damage to the car, which will likely cost several hundred euros (dollars) to repair, the paper said.
