Watch What You Say - I Mean Blog

Via BBC -

More than a third of UK bloggers risk the sack by posting derogatory or damaging details about their workplace, boss or colleagues, a survey claims.

Human resources company Croner, which commissioned the study, warned that such bloggers could be sacked from their job for gross misconduct.

Croner surveyed 2,000 people who keep a personal internet blog or diary and 39% said that they made harmful comments.

Bloggers should consider the potential impact of all postings, Croner said.

Good advise for sure. A very close non-blogging friend once told me not to let any company control what I say on my blog...and she has a point. But then she said it was like my own online dairy. I, of course, could not agree with this statement.

Dairies are personal, blog are not...and this is a fact. I write so that others read...teachers, friends, possible future bosses, ex-bosses, ex-girlfriends, parents, the government, other governments...god knows who.

Myspace is a perfect example. Kids post pictures and stories that they would never show/tell a police officer/parent...but basically they are handling them the evidence on a silver plate. Time and time again.

Experts tell you not to say anything in an e-mail that you wouldn't say to a person - face to face. And never say anything that you wouldn't want the world to see...because e-mail is forever.

Well, the same rules apply for blogs.

By law, you are free to speak your mind...but the law doesn't stop you from losing your friends or your job.

Sometimes you have to say out and sometimes you should do so to defense that right. But just think before you speak.

Moral of the Story - Whatch What You Say (Even in the Digital World)
