McLaren's chief designer Mike Coughlan was named by British media Wednesday as the man suspended by the Formula One team in the wake of allegations from rivals Ferrari that he had illegally received classified information from the Italian marque.
Ferrari announced Tuesday that it had sacked former race and test team manager Nigel Stepney following an internal investigation that revealed a McLaren employee had been supplied with important team data.
McLaren responded by suspending Coughlan, whose house near the McLaren headquarters in Surrey was also searched on the basis of a warrant applied for by Ferrari. The search reportedly led to the discovery of Ferrari documents.
