Pakistan Emergency Lifted, Constitution Restored

ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf Saturday lifted the state of emergency rule in the country by revoking Provincial Constitutional Ordinance (PCO) and restoring the suspended constitution along with basic civil rights.

Pervez Musharraf issued a Presidential Ordinance comprised on three Pages named "Revocation of Proclamation of Emergency Order 2007" to lift the state of emergency and to restore the constitution by ending the PCO.

The first Presidential order signed by Pervez Musharraf was related to revocation of emergency, second repeal of PCO and third revival of the constitution of 1973. Amazingly, President Musharraf proclaimed the state of emergency rule in the country also on Saturday (November 03).

Earlier, Syed Afzal Haider met President Pervez Musharraf and briefed him about the legal and constitutional documents to lift the state of emergency, sources told Online.

According to the order, the Chief Justice of Pakistan and judges of Supreme Court, the Chief Justice and the judges of the Federal Shariat Court and Chief Justice and the judges of High Courts will take oath under the 1973 constitution.

The articles related to civil rights which was suspended after imposition of emergency rule on November 03 including 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 and 19 have been restored. The Presidential order comes in to immediate around the country.
