The Global Risks 2008 report released this week by the World Economic Forum is expected to shape discussions at the forum meetings in Davos , Switzerland later this month, which Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to attend. The report mentions Turkey in its energy, security and nuclear non-proliferation section, saying, "Many of the nuclear power plants planned or currently under construction – a total of over 300 – are in countries that already have a functioning nuclear industry, in Europe, the US, China, India and Russia. But a growing number of countries with no nuclear technology are exploring the nuclear power option too, such as Turkey , Vietnam and Egypt."
Government leaders have openly expressed their intention to explore the nuclear power option for Turkey.
