DISA Picks Builder For New HQ at Fort Meade

The Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has awarded a $370 million single design-build contract to Hensel Phelps Construction of Chantilly, Va., to build the Defense Information Systems Agency’s future headquarters at Fort George Meade, Md.

The agency is preparing to relocate its 4,000-plus employees from their current offices, predominantly in Virginia, to Fort Meade in accordance with Base Realignment and Closure laws for the Defense Department passed by Congress in 2005. The construction of DISA’s multistory, 1,070,000-square-foot campus facility is expected to take three years.

Hensel Phelps will begin work right away at a 95-acre site on Fort Meade. The building will be the workplace for about 4,000 DISA employees now housed at several locations scattered across Northern Virginia. It also will be the home of the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations, now based in Arlington, Va.; the Deployable Joint Command and Control Program Office, currently in Panama City, Fla., the Joint Tactical Radio System Program Office, also in Arlington, and other DISA tenants. DISA plans to complete its move to the new headquarters by September 2011.
