Those intrepid hackers at the iPhone Dev Team have already broken the v2.0 Firmware of the new iPhone. While it obviously hasn't been tested on the actual new hardware, the team haver successfully Jailbroken a first-gen iPhone running the new operating system. And they did it before the official release from Apple, presumably using the leaked version we covered yesterday.
The Team will be releasing the hack into the wild any time now, in the form of their Pwnage tool. Given that the major attraction was that the jailbroken iPhone was the ability to run third-party applications, the real 2.0 firmware somewhat takes the wind out of the hack's sails with the new App Store. If it is a proper SIM unlock, though, allowing multi-carrier support, it will certainly remain useful, if only for roaming -- remember, you still need to sign up for a plan just to get ahold of the iPhone 3G.

After waiting in line for 4 hours yesterday morning, I am the new owner of a 18GB iPhone 3G.
Just in time too...because my RAZR was on its last leg...
