Via KeyeTV.com (Austin, TX) -

Two men were arrested in San Marcos after police say the recovered $27,000 in illegally purchased goods from an international credit card fraud ring.

Hector Gomez, 37, and Gabriel Rivas, 31, both from Mexico, were identified as they returned to a San Marcos Best Buy after being flagged for making previous fraudulent purchases there, police say.

Police were alerted to the purchases when a Michigan man said his credit card was used at the San Marcos Best Buy July 10.

When the men were arrested, SMPD found more than 50 credit cards as well as $27,000 in digital cameras, televisions, MP3 players and clothes in their rented Hummer. Police believe the men purchased the cards in Mexico using their real names, but credit card data from victims in the United States and possibly abroad.

Gomez and Rivas have been charged with three counts of credit card abuse, and one count of theft under $100,000, a third degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
