Iranian Hackers Attack Israeli Websites

Via ITExaminer.com -

Applicure Technologies has reported a significant increase in the number of hacking attempts against Israeli websites as the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) continues Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip.

"We're talking about Iranian organizations, some of which call themselves communist, and organizations affiliated with Syria and Hizbullah," Applicure founder and CTO David Allouch told Globes. "In contrast, during the Second Lebanon War in 2006, hackers were mostly kids from Morocco," said Allouch.

Allouch also noted that hackers are intent on crashing as many website as possible, irrespective of their strategic importance. For example, compromised sites apparently included Mazda Israel and Cargo Airlines.

Cyber warfare threats continue to pose a critical, strategic threat to many countries, including the United States. As IT Examiner previously reported, Russian hackers were recently accused of executing a serious malware strike against CENTCOM (US Central Command), the military entity responsible for coordinating operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The attack affected numerous computers in combat zones and FOBs (forward operating bases) and downed a highly protected classified network. The malware application responsible for the attack has been identified as Agent.bz, which is spread when a flash drive is plugged into an infected computer.

Russian hackers were also responsible for launching a massive cyber attack against a number of Georgian sites and servers in 2008. Indeed, the Georgian Foreign Affairs website was broken into and official photos replaced with pictures depicting the country's president as a Nazi
