Texas Prisons Remain on Lock Down After Phone Calls

Via MyFoxAustin (Local) -

AUSTIN, Texas -- All 111 prisons in the state of Texas remained on lock down Tuesday after death row inmates made threatening phone calls to state legislator John Whitmire. Authorities say convicted murderer Richard Tabler had his mother Lorraine purchase the phone for him last year. She continued to buy minutes for him as nine other inmates used the phone. Prison officials are conducting a statewide search for more contraband including other cell phones.

According to the video, two additional cell phones have been found with other death row inmates. Lorraine purchased the cell phone and paid a guard over 2000 dollars to get to the phone to Richard, that guard is currently under investigation.

The ability to jam cell-phone signals have been suggested in a special meeting focused on the contraband problem.
