Semi-reliable information indicates that Apple is working on a smaller, less expensive version of the iPhone.
The case manufacturer XSKN now lists the iPhone Nano on its website, alongside the original and 3G versions of this smartphone.
In the past, accessory manufactures have leaked a number of devices, including the iPhone 3G. But these early product listings aren't always reliable, as some companies will occasionally list items that they know are only rumors.
More about the iPhone Nano
The iPhone Nano will be the same height as the recently-released iPod Nano, but wider and thicker, according to an unconfirmed report from iDealsChina. This site claims to have leaked images of an XSKN case for this model, revealing its general appearance.
This same source says the iPhone Nano will have much in common with the current version, but lack 3G wireless networking.
Coming When?
Assuming this device is real, when it will be unveiled is unknown, There are a couple of big-name tradeshows coming up, but there are reasons to question whether the announcement will be at either of them.
Apple recently announced that Steve Jobs will never again make his traditional keynote address at MacWorld in January. This year it will be handled by another company executive. CES is also in January, but Apple isn't in the habit of unveiling products at this show. Instead, the company has signaled that it plans to announce its products at private events on its own schedule.
AT&T has an exclusive multi-year contract to offer the iPhone and related products, so if the iPhone Nano is real there's no doubt which carrier will offer it in the U.S.
