A letter bomb sent to a man at his home in Folkestone is being investigated as part of police inquiries into three similar incidents.
Security director Mike Wingfield, 53, suffered minor injuries when he opened an item of mail on Saturday.
"Detectives are currently making inquiries to determine who sent the letter and why," Kent Police said.
The BBC's Danny Shaw said it was part of an inquiry involving other letter bombs in London, Berkshire and Swansea.
A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "Police will examine any similarities between the incidents but at this stage we cannot say whether any of them are linked."
