State Bank of Pakistan Freezes Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Accounts

Via DailyTimes (Pakistan) -

The SBP [State Bank of Pakistan] has directed all the commercial banks to freeze the bank accounts of the banned TTP [Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan], Geo News reported. The channel quoted SBP spokesman Syed Wasimuddin as saying that these accounts would no longer be usable for the deposit or withdrawal of money. According to the channel, the commercial banks have been asked to provide complete details of these bank accounts.

On August 25th 2008, the Pakistan government imposed a ban on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) - run by militant leader Baitullah Mehsud.

The connection between TTP and Al-Qaeda is well know, and was confirmed (yet again) in the recent NEFA interview of TTP spokesman Maulvi Omar.
